The Sprintbeemer is a custom drag motorcycle by my friend Seb Lorentz of The Lucky Cat Garage. For it’s second incarnation (which we later nicknamed the ‘Brainf**k) Seb asked me to design a new concept for the fairing, petrol tank and race suit. Using a deceptively simple tessellating arrow pattern to represent both the airflow over the aerodynamic fairing and forward motion and to, in Seb’s words, ‘disturb the eyes of competitors on the starting grid’.
I then masked the design completely by hand eye with the help of Nico at Airtech, documented in the short film on page 5. The bike has since gone on to become one to the most talked about custom motorcycles of the last few years (view the BikeExif article here), with countless posts across motorcycle and design blogs and inclusion in ‘The Ride 2nd Gear‘, published by Gestalten.
